On 8th January 2k5, I went up to help Chris Jordan build his new computer,
After partially doing THAT, Doug Kerr, Chris and I took a tour of Schenectady Hi-Lites,
after having a nice lunch at a hot dog stand that had good sauce and great fries.
Adding to the fun was the fact that we were getting 6" of snow at the time.
But HARD CORE roadgeeks just strap on the mucklucks and drive on!

Let’s all “Sing Frosty The Snowman!”
Green Street Underpass of a railway. |
The headroom sign for the overpass above.
Looks funny, eh? That's because a new sine was bunged over the old one. The headroom changed, you see. Can you say LAZY?
Frowsy Schenectady Street Sines.
The numbers on the bottom are not block numbers, but guidance for invading UN forces. The yellow circle is supposed to be the city seal. |
Broadway and the IH 890-JN 5 on the the IH 890. |
Diagrammatic sign at the end of the feeder road on the north side of the IH 890.
Be nice if they would specify if it were the EAST IH 890. |
The signal on the south side of JN 5,
This also controls Crane Street. You can kinda see the diagonal arrow. |
Nanook the 4-way on a mast arm.
That mast arm behind him is for a replacement signal, and according to Chris Jordan, has been there for some time. Schenectady is on it’s uppers, it seems. |
Signal salad at a 5-way junction:
Francis Ave, Forest Road and Willett Street. This is actually 4 photos each of two signals. Willett Street gets a flashing red. Opposite that is the visorless side. The arrow segment was just bunged on there. Dig the arrow stylee. |
This is a sign for the high bridge on the IH 890,
it looks like this from the next bridge east. |
Here's what you can see from the top of the Cotton Factory Hollow Bridge:
Nanook of the North Stylee: The first snap looks east over the IH 890; You can see the back of the gantry for JN 5-Broadway and the on-slip to the feeder road from Craig Street The second is west, with the on-slip from Broadway, and the feeder that links into Broadway. |

A rare signal with backplates in Schenectady. |
Entering the NY 7 Crosstown Connector from NY 5.
We're heading northeast, The Consaul Street signal is ahead. |
The Golf Road signal on NY 7. |
Approaching the multi-leg Union Street junction on NY 7 eastbound.
The mast/span sports 3M PV signals. This picture shows this approach, but looking west from the verge. The Mast/Span is on the far left. |
Coming up on the junction from the east, now;
looking west, at the advance signage. |
Where Union and NY 7 diverge.
at the immediate right is Rosendale Road, a county highway. ahead, westbound Union Street leaves on the right; and eastbound traffic waits in the distance to cross. A U-turn is allowed ahead, since Rosendale is right-in right-out. |
HELLvetica sine! Aieeee!
I think Schenectady County is responsible for this monstrosity. This is against the Geneva Convention. |
Union Street enters the City of Schenectady just past
Van Antwerp Road
Note the lettering doesn't reflect well, but the city seal does. Ha. |
