| On foot in the Village of Waterford.
The 4th Street bridge over the Erie Canal in Waterford.
The same bridge and lock no 2 on the Erie Canal.
A former railway bridge in Waterford: looking southeast toward the Hudson.
A closer look at the bridge.
Peebles Island is across the canal.
You’re looking south.
Under the railway bridge:
The beacons hanging from the bridge are channel markers for the Erie Canal.
One more look at the bridge from the east.
You can see the bit added on when the bridge was rebuilt.
Note the retro lampposts.
Old-school large guide sign for canal traffic.
This is at a point separating the Mohawk River from the Hudson.
Signal salad from Waterford.
Featuring a village sign and a “Heritage Area” Sign.
The Latter have a unique symbol for each area.
This sign is common in this area, according to Doug Kerr;
When I've seen it it's usually an aged STOP sign.
Nothing nearly as nice and new as this.
Lookng at the Waterford(Union) Bridge-US 4 over the Hudson River.
The Broad and Second Street signal in Waterford.
It's set to flash-I caught it off.
Four different brands of pedestrian signals in one installation!
This is at Broad and 3rd.
NY 32 joins US 4 northbound(or if you like, leaves southbound)here.
On the road with Doug Kerr-Waterford to Glens Falls.
The eastern end of NY 146 south of the City of Mechanicville.
Southbound, you get two chances to turn west on NY 146.
The first right off-slip is up on the berm, and allows traffic to avoid the signal.
,br>In the third picture, you can see a train passing on the railway east of the junction.
You find this signal at the junction of NY 67 West and US 4.
US 4 turns right with NY 67 here-note the separate right turn head.
This is a pretty old light. The NO TURN ON RED sign is quietly rusting away.
A nice railway bridge over the Hudson
on US 4 between Mechanicville and Stillwater.
What's wrong with this street sign?
NYS 4? Hmmmm.
This wooden mileage sign is in the same vicinity as the above two snaps.
It’s not so rare, I've seen newer wooden signs, but this isn't one of them |
A quick Sine Salad for ya, on the east bank of the Hudson.
We crossed the river at Stillwater.
You’re in Renssalaer County,
at the junction of County Highways 120 and 125.
CH 120 links into Washington County Highway 113-thus the sign:
That's a Washington County assembly.
Looking west at the same point as the sine Salad above,
The Lock 4 State Canal Park is to the left, Stillwater is ahead.
You see the first bridge in the top snap;
in between this and the second bridge is an island.
Now on NY 32 heading west past the southern
border of Saratoga National Historical Park.
Now actually heading north on a short separate section of NY 32;
south of the Saratoga National Historical Park visitor center.
Coveville Road, looking east. A nice shot of rural eastern New York.
Returning to US 4, heading north, towards the Villages of Victory and Schuylerville.
Don't bother sending mail to Victory, though,
because there's no such entity as far as the Post Office is concerned.
There’s “Victory Mills”-post boxes only.
Saratoga County Highway 338 is an old NY Touring Route;
and leads to The Saratoga Battle Monument, and back to NY 29,
west of Schuylerville.
Here’s the Battle Monument, now.
North of Schuylerville on US 4 at the junction of Saratoga County 42.
Crossing the Champlain Canal at Lock 5; and the Hudson after crossing an island.
NY 32 leaves US 4 again, US 4 crosses the Hudson on this bridge.
Crossing into Washington County,
AND...at the northeast foot of the bridge,
US 4 meets Washington County 113, advertised earlier in the program.
And now the same bridge from the opposite direction!
The middle of the bridge here: note the steel grate deck.
Here's a look at the bridge from the southeast-
alongside Washington County 113
NY 32 between the split with US 4 at the Hudson,
and the junction of US 9 in South Glens Falls.
Glens Falls.
Crossing the Hudson again on US 9;
Leaving Saratoga For Warren County;
and entering the City of Glens Falls.
The next large town is Plattsburgh.
Doug Kerr and I spent some time near the bridge,
which is adjacent to an industrial estate-The Finch Prime Paper Mill.
That’s him doing his Nanook the Paparazzi of the North Imitation in the last snap.
Dead signals at the north foot of the bridge.
I guess a truck must have clipped that pedestrian signal. Ow.
In downtown Glens Falls at the US 9/NY 9L/NY 32 junction.
You don’t see NY 32-which angles at 90° to the right.
Sign assembly on NY 32 facing west into the junction above.
Church Street junction on NY 32 east in Glens Falls
Looking south at the US 9-NY 9L-NY 32 junction in Glen's Falls.
This is the END of NY 9L.
Cheesy pull-through for US 9.
It could be a problem if the rest of the junction weren’t so well marked.
Southbound on US 9 at this junction.
North of the big junction on US 9 at Sherman street in Glens Falls.
A YIELD TO PEDESTRIANS sign in Glens Falls.
North of Glens Falls on US 9 near NY 254,
we found this large un-neutered IH 87 shield.
The red has faded away,
which often happens this colour on sines around here.
The South Glens Falls exit from Southbound IH 87.
