On 8th January 2k5, I went up to help Chris Jordan build his new computer, This is a part of the road trip Doug Kerr and I took on the 9th. Here we’re cruising around Warren County. All links open in a separate window.

A seasonal signal on US 9 in Lake George.
A few sines near the entry to Adirondack Park on US 9.
At the turn leading to the Warrensburg junction on IH 87 from US 9.
Not NY 9! Now we’re a good 120+ miles from Quebec, but here's an Autoroute 15 sine.
Ferrin infiltration! Where’s my shotgun, Maw?
Wonder why the plate doesn’t say “TO/VERS”,
which would be politically correct.
US 9 heading northbound-all picture postcardy and stoof. It was bloody cold, too.
US 9 heading into Warrensburg-
crossing the Schroon River on this nice little pony truss bridge.
Warrensburg sine salad. You may be surprised that we have a
“Dude Ranch Trail” in the hills of NY.
But, hey, where do ya think they get all the dudes from in the first place?
Note the free church offer on the left. We passed on that.
North of Warrensburg, still on US 9.
Remember the address of this page in summer.
You’ll be 20° cooler.
A recent Newsgroup discussion focused on signs and features unique to states.
Here ya go; This color scheme can't be found anywhere else.
Not only that, it's only used in Catskill and Adirondack parks.
A directional sine on NY 28 heading east into US 9.
At the north end of the highway.
Devries Road-an old section of NY 28 just north of the present US 9-NY 28 jn.
Another brown/gold directional sign, in daytime mode here.
The US 9-NY 28 junction, looking south.
Seeing a distance of 100 miles on an ordinary highway sign is kind of rare in NY.
Back on the Northway(IH 87), southbound-heading back toward Glens Falls.
The double broken lines are for the crawler lane.
Signage approaching j22. The “Vil” is “Village”
I like how the snow piles on top of the shields on the sign.
J22 is actually a short super-2 freeway spur linking IH 87 to NY 9N;
with an off-slip for US 9.
IH 87 southbound going through j22.
Most of the overpasses are long, since IH 87 has a wide right of way.
A curve south of j22 on the IH 87.
The overpass is for the Prospect Mountain Highway-
a toll road going to the highest point in NY.
Leaving the IH 87 at j20.
Looking out over the Southbound Northway from the NY 149 overpass.
NY 149’s spur from IH 87 meets US 9,
and you get Sine salad, ready to eat!
There are 19 sines on 10 poles,
enough for the whole bippin fambly and the cat!
Ever wonder what happens to old interstate shields?
Speaking of Shields....Here’s a shield salad for ya at j20.
it includes the only known posting of a Warren County Highway number.
Couldn’t leave out the END sine now could I?
And here's the BACK of a NY freeway sign.
Other sites show you just the front, but the Comrade Yamamoto Experience
is Bold! Daring! and Innovative!
Actually, just wanted to show how they bung these suckers together.
Note how they mark ID data with an El-MarkoŽ. El Cheapo.
Well after our J20 jaunt, Doug and I got back on the N-Way south
and left by J19 so we could see NY 254-Kind of a northern semi-orbital of Glens Falls.
Here we meet US 9 at an “Urban X”(my term) wirespan signal installation.
Skankin’ Truss Pedestrian overpass of NY 254.
All good things must come to an end, and NY 254 drops back to a two-lane road here.
Now in Hudson Falls; We stop near the END of NY 254.
This sign explains the next snap.
The Railway Piers noted on the above sign.
Be nice if they did something with this lot,
like a bike/ped bridge or something.
Guess the sine was all they could afford.
And here in Beautiful Downtown Hudson Falls at a monument,
flows an impromptu roundabout. NY 254 and US 4 meet here.
Hudson Falls Sine Salad with an END Thrown in for good measure!
Look closely at the back of this sign,
it's the END NY 196 sign from above,
and you can nearly make out the legend of the sign.
I have no clue how or why THIS happens,
and it's not the only time I've seen it.
And a bit ’o Retroness here, a Rexall Chemist’s sine that’s older than ME!
I think this parking sine is too. Sometimes the nostalgia tip just doesn't work.
And finishing off with a bit of Beaver Cheese here.
Complete with 3-D augmentation of the Rodent’s forward deployment.
Many are have to exclaimed while passing by:
“Beavers? Damn!”
You just don't get this kind of humour on other road sites,
a fact for which you should be profoundly grateful.
